Here’s my confession. I used to be one of those business owners who spent time during the week between Christmas and New Year’s with my colored markers and fancy Post-it notes creating my next year’s PLAN. But somehow by March, I had misplaced the plan and was nowhere near achieving my goals. 

Well, at least I tried! 

But I soon learned there was a better way to build a revenue growth strategy, and it wasn’t by creating an annual plan with a list of big goals and to-dos.

An annual plan is why so many business owners end up sprinting till March, stalling by June, and white‑knuckling Q4.

You’ve seen the stats. In 2024, 35% of small businesses operated at a loss. Another 19% broke even. Only 46% made a profit.

Time for some tough love. If you want a different outcome in 2026, you need a different engine and a different roadmap to drive it.

This is the moment to learn how to build a 90-day plan based on the 3Rs: review, reset, and refocus. And a huge part of that plan is based on your marketing implementation side of your Revenue Growth Engine: Captivate, Engage, and Cultivate.

And it all starts by committing to no more random acts of marketing.

Let’s start by asking, what happens when you don’t have a clear roadmap or plan for the future?

Without one, you’ll bounce between ideas, trends, and other people’s goals. Without an implementation strategy, you’ll chase every bright shiny object, and waste time, money and energy.

But with a 2026 Revenue Roadmap, you’ll turn pressure into CLARITY, you’ll have:  

  • Targets you can actually hit
  • Leading indicators you can track weekly
  • A simple cadence for consistent visibility
  • Confidence that your activities align with profit

What would it feel like if your calendar stopped owning you and you started owning it?

What would it feel like if you knew each month and each week the exact action steps to take to reach your goals?

I can tell you from my own experience that it feels f**ing amazing! I can also share that my clients feel so much more confident because the doubt and the second-guessing disappear!

So exactly how do you build your 2026 Revenue Roadmap?

During the planning day, among other things, you’ll start setting the stage for the actual implementation of your marketing. And that marketing implementation is based on the CEC Model.

 


The CEC Model: Captivate, Engage, Cultivate


Think of your audience journey like three doors they pass through before they ever buy.

1) Captivate “I see you”.
This is the capture their attention phase. Discovery. It’s about how you get new people into your world.

Examples: podcasts, talks, guest features, SEO, partner emails, social content, media.  It’s not about doing ALL of those, but it’s about choosing what works best for you at your stage of business growth. Currently, for me, it’s speaking! What could it be for you – podcast guesting?

Your question: Where will new eyes find me every single week?

2) Engage “I’m curious”
This is the connection phase, i.e. getting your ideal client to take/make a small yes. 

Examples: newsletter opt‑ins, webinar registrations, consult requests, DM conversations, lead magnets.

When I’m out speaking or networking, my go-to lead magnet is my CEO Weekly Sanity Meeting checklist. The more I speak and network, the more my list grows! I encourage the audience to take a small YES.

Your question: What specific next step am I inviting them to take right now?

3) Cultivate“I trust you”
This is the nurturing phase. They’ve taken a small YES, now they want proof of your credibility as well as proof that they can actually do the work. This requires repetition. 

Examples: weekly newsletters, case studies, short teaching videos, client wins, behind the scenes, FAQs.

Your question: How do I stay top of mind until they’re ready to buy?

When these three systems run together, you stop chasing. Your pipeline fills even while you’re heads‑down serving clients.

Which of these 3 systems could you improve? Whether it’s in terms of consistency? Or in terms of conversion? Remember, all of marketing is about testing what works and what could be improved.  It’s about consistently improving to get a better ROI.

Once you have built your CEC model and system, it’s time to plan and create a roadmap for the coming year so you build consistent revenue rather than a revenue rollercoaster.Here’s the planning sequence we use in the CEO Freedom Academy to prepare for a strong year.

1) Review
Look back at 2025 (or the previous 90 days) with clear eyes and evaluate your:

  • Revenue vs profit
  • Top 3 client sources
  • Offers that delivered the most margin and joy
  • Time sinks that drained you
  • What worked, what didn’t, what’s next

2) Reset
Decide what changes need to take place…

  • Keep the channels and offers that pulled their weight
  • Stop tactics that ate time without returns
  • Start one new Captivate channel and one new Cultivate habit
  • Simplify by trimming your offer menu so buyers can choose faster


3) Refocus
Choose your 2026 targets and leading indicators:

  • Annual revenue goal
  • Quarterly milestones
  • Monthly inputs: emails sent, talks given, discovery calls booked
  • Weekly non‑negotiables: 1 Captivate action, 1 Engage invitation, 1 Cultivate touch

It’s about making your plan Simple.

It’s about you being Visible.

And it’s about your marketing being Measurable.
