The statistics are alarming……

  • A Gallup poll says 75% of entrepreneurs have occasional or frequent burnout.
  • 1 in 3 entrepreneurs live in depression.
  • 54% of Canadian women are depressed and 41% burnout.

As you know, I’ve been in entrepreneurial circles for more than 40 years …. which means I’ve spoken with A LOT of business owners, business founders, and entrepreneurs! So many of them have shared with me their ‘burnout stories’.  I was shocked to hear how they hustled and compulsively worked long hours, never taking vacations. How they couldn’t sleep. How their home relationships failed. About their multiple health issues and often about their hospitalization.

But for many of them, this health crisis was a blessing in disguise!

While I don’t have any clear data or statistics, those entrepreneurs who have shared their stories of burnout with me have also shared that once they recovered from their crisis, life and business got a whole lot better.

You see failure or crisis can be a great learning experience.

Successful entrepreneurs take lessons from their crises. They realize that both their life and their business MUST be different if they are to thrive. They realize that they must make different choices! This is where many of them get really clear on how they want their business to support their new desired lifestyle.

So burnout, like many crises, can be a blessing in disguise.

In this week’s episode of Work Less PROFIT More business podcast, I have a conversation with a local Ottawa healthcare professional who burnt out.  She shares her lessons learned and how burnout was a blessing in disguise.
