Has anyone ever asked you that question? Better yet – can you answer that question? I certainly can! If I close my eyes and envision my ‘perfect day’ in my business 5 years from now, I know exactly what it will look like.
I can picture my office, my assistant, and my work day. I know that I am a sought after speaker; I’m a trusted and recognized coach & consultant. I know exactly how much money I will be making. I know the title of the book I am writing, and much more. These details make my vision real!
So you ask – why is it important to have a ‘vision’ for my business? Starting with a dream or a vision for your business allows your mind to wander to those areas of business that you are passionate about and areas where you will succeed. A vision also is the starting point for setting long term goals for your business.
“Give me a stock clerk with a goal, and I will give you a person who will make history. Give me a person without a goal, and I will give you a stock clerk. “ (J.C. Penney)
Goals give us direction and purpose. Without them, whatever you do will always get you somewhere …. but is it where you want to go? In a previous blog, I wrote about 5 Simple Steps to Define Success which you might find helpful. Try going to a quiet spot and try thinking specifically what would your perfect day would look like? Who would you work with? How often would you work? What does your office look like? How much money do you want to earn? Once you can answer these questions, dream a bit more and come up with more details which you could write in a journal. Dreaming is the start of creating your vision, out of which will come your goals and your direction!
