Let’s start with a confession.
I ran away from home at the age of 48. WHY? Because my daughter had just been diagnosed with CFS and the doctor said she would never finish high school, go to university, hold a full-time job, get married, etc. Life wasn’t very rosy.
And at the same time, my retail business was running my life! I wore the badge of Chief Everything Officer.
Something had to give because I knew I wanted to be my daughter’s chief caregiver and advocate. I knew I had to shift out of hustle mode! So I changed my business model for one that prioritized freedom!
You see, I was like most women entrepreneurs who start their business with a dream. More freedom. More time for family. More joy.
But somewhere along the way, the business starts feeling like a burden instead of a blessing. I was working harder than ever. I was holding it all together. And deep down, I wondered if this is what I signed up for.
The truth? I didn’t have a freedom problem. I had a business model problem.
A business that isn’t designed to serve your life will always demand more than it gives. That’s where the shift to a freedom-first business comes in.
So what does that look like? Over the years, I’ve discovered five key shifts that move you out of entrepreneurial poverty and into CEO freedom.
First, clarity of vision, values, and mission. When you know where you’re headed and why, decisions become easier. Without that, everything feels reactive and chaotic.
Second, a revenue growth engine. Not random marketing tactics, but a simple, powerful system to attract, nurture, convert, and retain the right clients consistently.
Third, a 90-day planning system. Replace the scattered to-do lists with focused, proactive execution. It’s the difference between being busy and actually making progress.
Fourth, leading like a CEO. That means making high-level decisions, not micromanaging everything. Shifting from “doer” to “leader” is one of the biggest mindset changes, and also the most freeing.
And finally, a support growth engine. Lean systems, a capable team, and the right tools, so your business can scale without you being chained to it.
These aren’t theories. They’re practical shifts I’ve seen transform women’s businesses from exhausting to energizing.
But here’s the thing, you won’t know which shift you need most until you step back and take an honest look at your business.
That’s where the CEO Freedom Audit™ self-assessment worksheet comes in. It helps you spot the exact beliefs, bottlenecks, and habits keeping you stuck, so you can finally focus on what matters.

Because the business you built was never meant to steal your freedom.
It was meant to fund it.
