I’ve been an entrepreneur for more than 40 years. And let me tell you, I’ve seen a lot of changes, whether it’s online, different parts of Canada, etc. One of the things that stands out is how quickly marketing tactics come and go.

Remember Periscope? Remember the fax machine? Yep. Been there. Done that.

But through all the noise, many things have stayed the same: The businesses that consistently attract qualified clients follow foundational marketing principles, not trends.

So if you feel like marketing keeps changing faster than you can keep up, this should help you reset your marketing compass.

Here are 10 things that NEVER change!

  1. The Law of Clarity

If you confuse them, you lose them. Your message must be crystal clear about 3 simple things: who you help, what problem you solve, and why it matters now.

  1. The Law of Relevance

People buy when they see themselves in your story. Speak directly to their pain, their desires, and their next step, not your features or credentials.

  1. The Law of Consistency

Repetition builds recognition. Marketing that works is marketing that shows up, again and again, with the same message, visuals, and energy. You might get bored saying the same things over and over, but your audience never will.

  1. The Law of Trust

Sales follow safety. Every testimonial, case study, and clear client result removes a layer of doubt and builds confidence. More and more people need to trust you!

  1. The Law of Simplicity

Complexity kills conversion. If your process, offer, or message feels complicated, people hesitate. Make it simple, doable, and valuable. I use the KISSS principle …. Keep it sustainable, strategic, and simple.

  1. The Law of Reciprocity

Give value first. When you teach, help, and share freely, your audience starts to see you as the go-to expert before they ever buy.

  1. The Law of Emotion

People decide with emotion and justify with logic. Facts tell. Stories sell. Your clients want to feel something before they sign on the dotted line.

  1. The Law of Momentum

Marketing compounds. The results you see today come from the seeds you planted 3-6 months ago, so keep planting. Small, consistent actions always beat big bursts of effort followed by silence.

  1. The Law of Alignment

Marketing that feels aligned with your values and lifestyle is marketing you’ll actually do. And done consistently beats perfect, but never posted!

  1. The Law of AI (The Evolving Law)

Adapt or disappear. The marketing world has changed. People won’t just be searching your website; AI will be scanning it.

Your words, structure, and authority determine whether your business even shows up in the next generation of search.

That means:

  • Write for clarity and context, not cleverness.
  • Publish original thought, not recycled noise.
  • Build digital authority that AI (and humans) can trust.

It’s not about chasing algorithms. It’s about making your expertise readable by both humans and machines.

Action Step

Grab a pen. Ask yourself — on a scale of 1–3:
1 = Hell No
2 = Somewhat
3 = Hell Yes

How would you rate your marketing against each of these laws?
Where you score low, start there. That’s your opportunity to refocus, refine, and rebuild momentum.

Because while tools and platforms will keep changing… These laws won’t.
